Family Safari in Tanzania

A family safari in Africa is a wonderful way to combine fun and education in young children enabling you to experience some exciting adventures together.

Many avid travellers first found their inspiration and "wanderlust" by a sight first seen as a child in Africa and the increase of their awareness of the world around them - totally different to that around their usual home environment - is a good attribute to carry forward.

As any parent knows, to "keep everyone happy" the right environment is a must. At Opulent Africa we take great care to assimilate all our clients' wants, wishes and expectations to enable us to offer the best tailor made itinerary to suit your family. Ease of access and travel, together with safety of same, appropriate and comfortable accommodation and full awareness of activities and suitability of location.

Northern Tanzania is an ideal option for a safari in Africa it ticks many of the boxes on the wish list for a luxury family safari holiday. Travelling with a private jeep and guide works really well as you game drive to each accommodation - lodge or luxury tented camp. This type of privately guided safari has huge advantages to the family as there is complete flexibility for you to spend the most suitable duration of each day enjoying each activity. Additonally you will not impact on others around you or need to take their wishes into consideration when planning your day with your guide. If there are relatively young children in the family group often lodges and camps will insist that a private vehicle is booked for game drives anyway. Therefore, with your private vehicle right from the start you have a great opportunity to build a good rapport with your guide/driver, another aspect which is particularly important for children.

In addition to the excellent game viewing opportunities you and your family can enjoy cultural visits such as a morning at a local Masaai village - this is a very enjoyable to see how other families and children live. In Northern Tanzania there are superb game reserves - the world famous Serengeti National Park, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Lake Manyara National Park and Tarangire National Park to name a few. Within each of these areas there are luxury lodges and intimate tented camps that will thrill visitors of all ages.

Tarangire Treetops with its rooms set high in the arms of old Baobab and Marula trees. Luxurious Ngorongoro Crater Lodge that sits on the rim of a caldera created millions of years ago - with game drives actually down on the crater floor. This is the largest intact caldera in the World and within its diverse habitats the black rhino, one of the most endangered species on the planet is flourishing.

Plantation Lodge, has a variety of accommodation that includes private four bedded family accommodation in its charming Garden House. In a corner of the northern Serengeti, the only permanent camp in the area - Sayari Camp, is an elegant tented camp which has the capability to arrange one side of the camp to be reserved on a totally exclusive basis for a family or group.

Accommodation and game viewing experience of the same excellently high standard is also available in the Selous Game Reserve and Ruaha National Park situated in Southern Tanzania although very remote and with access only available by light aircraft, is slightly better suited to families with older children.

Private houses or wings of lodges/hotels are of course ideal for families as the flexibility of activities, facilities and services such as meal times etc is much welcome. Often private chefs, staff, guides and vehicles will be incorporated into this style of arrangement.

Without doubt all accommodation - whether intimate tented camps or safari chic lodges - will all have superb freshly cooked meals, spacious bedrooms that are attractively furnished with comfortable beds and en-suite facilities; the guides will be of the highest standard, professional and knowledgeable and the high ratio of staff to guests will ensure your every need is met.

Just a short light aircraft flight from the game reserves brings you on to the coast of Tanzania or to one of its beach paradise locations. It may be a welcome conclusion to your family safari to spend a few final days on the beach and many of these excellent Indian Ocean lodges are well appointed for families.

Expert advice is required in respect of medication and any age restrictions that may apply to prevent any disappointment on arrival. Please contact Opulent Africa to fully explore your ideal family safari.
