South Africa is the destination selected by many for a safari holiday and the country has plenty to offer in combination with a safari. A variety of interests and hobbies can be indulged on the Garden Route, so whether you want activities and adventure or relaxing rambles this beautiful scenic journey is just the ticket.
The Garden Route lends itself well to many pursuits, from hiking to paragliding, whale watching and exploration of dense forest ecosystems. There are numerous nature reserves and wonderful sheltered beaches where you can explore rock pools and wade with rolled up trouser legs. After you expend all of this energy it will likely need replacing. Laced along the Garden Route, to solve this problem, are many exclusive restaurants and cosy cafés offering exquisite cuisine from traditional African fare to European and needless to say the area is renowned for its delectable seafood as it is South Africa’s oyster capital.
Cape Town forms either the start or end of your Garden Route tour and whichever we would suggest you spend a few days in Cape Town; A cosmopolitan, relaxing yet also a vibrantly entertaining city. The grand waterfront hotels with the backdrop of Table Mountain await for interesting days and romantic evenings.
After enjoying Cape Town and the Garden Route on reaching Port Elizabeth you can add to your trip with a few nights in one of South Africa's game reserves which are perfect for private family safaris with lodges geared for inquisitive younger minds. There are some fabulous safari lodges along the Garden Route if you wish to avoid malarial regions and there is also the Madikwe Game Reserve just a short flight from Johannesburg which is also malaria free. South Africa offers a perfect opportunity if you only want to spend a few days in the bush, without the need to take Anti Malarial medication or jeopardising the likelihood of spotting the Big Five.
South Africa’s Garden Route is vibrant, scenic and an attractive proposition for a South African safari holiday. It has a fabulously diverse selection of places to visit and enjoy including welcoming hospitality. The Kruger National Park is often the location of choice for many South African safaris.
