A safari in South Africa are perfect for younger families...

Safaris in The Kruger Reserves

The Kruger National Park and is adjoining private game reserves, in Southern Africa, is a premier safari destination with luxurious and stylish safari lodges that will fulfil the needs of both the seasoned safari connoisseur and the first time wildlife visitor.

There are many excellent lodges and tented camps within the park itself but for a safari in South Africa one of the adjacent private game reserves such as Thornybush, Sabi Sands, Kapama, Timbavati, or Manyeleti offers a truly unique safari undertaking that includes superb accommodation with the added bonus of wildlife activities such as night game drives that are not permitted in the main national park.

The Kruger National Park first came into existence in 1898 as the Sabie Reserve when the area was formed to safeguard the game from over-hunting. The conservation area continued to grow in size until in 1926 when it was announced to be the Kruger National Park and now covers an area of some 18,989 square kilometres making it one of Africa’s largest game reserves.

The park and adjoining private game reserves contain a good variety of animals and having unfenced boundaries the animals can freely roam along its own historic paths and routes. The Kruger region is home to spectacular animals kingdoms and the diversity here provides for some superb game viewing, as you will have the opportunity to see The Big Five - lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard and rhino. The members of this group were named as such due to the difficulty in hunting them and the degree of danger involved in doing so, rather than the size of them. Fortunately those days are long gone and the Big Five are enjoyed by many wildlife enthusiasts as they are sought after only for the pleasure of watching them in their natural habitat and the taking of photographic “shots”.

As always, there is a range of accommodation available from rustic camps and lodges to some of the most intimate and exclusive safari lodges in Africa. These lodges have a well deserved reputation and are recipients of many industry accolades for their comfort, excellent service, facilities and of course for delivering superb game viewing with professional and knowledgeable guides that strive to create best safari experience for their guests. The lodges are inspired in design and crafted from natural, local materials to blend into the surroundings with guest rooms and suites thoughtfully positioned to provide individual privacy with the best views. Guests can enjoy spacious accommodation that is tastefully furnished with en-suite facilities, welcoming guest areas and excellent cuisine that is accompanied by excellent local South African wines.

Many of the luxury lodges incorporate wellness spa making them the perfect choice for total rejuvenation of body and spirit. Other lodges have positioned themselves to welcome families and younger children to the Africa safari experience and offer facilities and services for all ages. Kruger National Park also enjoys malaria free status although it is essential that all medical requirements are thoroughly checked prior to travel.

The Kruger National Park and its superb private game reserves are within easy reach of the international gateway of Johannesburg and the destinations are well served by daily scheduled light aircraft services. Being conveniently situated it would be perfect to combine a safari taking in one or two different lodges with a stay in cosmopolitan Cape Town or Johannesburg. With our knowledge and experience Opulent Africa can create a tailor-made holiday to Southern Africa which will combine just the right measures of safari expectation and experience to suit you as a couple, honeymooner or family.
