Remote and relaxing Laikipia

Laikipia - the gateway to Kenya’s northern frontier district a wild and sparsely inhabited landscape of wide open plains and forested valleys.

Stretching to the foothills of Mount Kenya on the horizon, Laikipia’s savannah is mainly split into ranchland that is farmed and managed by local communities often with the farm animals sharing the land with wild animals. These communities provide a fantastic insight into traditional culture and local conservation efforts. The ranches are run by Maasai herders who face ongoing problems with the big cats that find the cattle easy prey.

Fed by the Ewaso Nyiro and Ewaso Narok rivers Laikipia has a diverse range of habitats from open savannah, acacia woodlands, balsalt hills, cedar forest and rugged kopjes the area supports a very wide range of wildlife including the big five lion, leopard, rhino, buffalo, and elephant and dense populations of Grevy’s Zebra, eland and establish packs of wilddog. With all of this game and the rich mix of tribal culture although Laikipia is on of Kenya’s least visited it is certainly one of the most attractive locations for a safari.

Laikipia is wonderful for a variety of safari activities, walking with your masai guide, game drives both during the day and night, horse riding and mountain biking.
