Tree climbing lions and a birder's paradise...

Luxury Safari in the Lake Manyara National Park

Stretching out from the foothills of the 600-metre high Rift Valley escarpment is the Lake Manyara National Park, a scenic and less commonly visited gem of Tanzania.

A few days on safari in Tanzania’s Lake Manyara National Park combines excellently with a few days in the Serengeti shadowing the migration before heading of to an idyllic Indian Ocean beach.

Lake Manyara National Park is a small but game rich safari park, a bird lover’s paradise and home to the legendary Lake Manyara tree-climbing lion. The lions of Lake Manyara hunt on the grassy shores of what Hemingway classed as the loveliest lake in Africa.

Lake Manyara is a magical and pretty park in which to spend a few days whilst on safari in Tanzania. In years gone by the park attracted the big game hunters but today the wildlife is protected with blue and vervet monkeys, baboons, Maasai giraffe and impala all flourishing in the park.

From the national park gate, the road twists through the lush jungle-like forests which are densely inhabited with baboon often found strolling along the tracks and monkeys that swing sprightly between the ancient mahogany trees.

In contrast to the lush forests of Lake Manyara National Park are the grassy floodplains and the alkaline lake. The plains of Lake Manyara are home to large buffalo, many wildebeest and zebra and giraffe all of which congregate around the soda lake that hosts many waterbirds and a pink shimmer of flamingos.
