Tanzania; vast rolling plains of the Serengeti that host Africa’s infamous wildebeest migration, the striking depth of the 8000ft high Ngorongoro Crater, and the indulating pink shimmer of flamingos resting in the salt lake shallows.

This is Tanzania a safari country with spectacular scenery, vibrant culture, plentiful game and superb yet remote luxury safari camps to create the ultimate East African safari experience.

Tanzania is well known for the vast rolling plains of Serengeti dotted with wildebeest, Lake Manyara National Park with its tree climbing lions, the impressive Ngorongoro Crater, the Taragire and the lesser visited parks to the south of the country the Selous Game Reserve and the Ruaha National Park, each of which offers a completely different safari experience for a luxury safari in Tanzania.

A luxury safari in northern Tanzania would perhaps see you spending a few days in the Serengeti in a wonderful tented camp which moves every few months to shadow the migration. This is the perfect scenario for either a family safari or for a group of friends travelling together. This is an exceptional way to witness this infamous spectacle as you’ll be perfectly placed to see literally millions of wildebeest and zebra on the move in search of fresh grass with the predatory big cats not far behind them. Your private guide will provide make your game viewing in search of the Big five on the 265 square kilometres of Ngorongoro crater floor, with a few nights in the Tarangire or Lake Manyara National Parks before heading home or to an exotic beach to relax. With fantastic luxury camps, exquisite cuisine and knowledgeable guides and hosts throughout your safari this is luxury Tanzania.

A little further south are the lesser known parks which are often referred to as Tanzania’s ‘Southern Tanzania Safari Circuit’. In the Selous Reserve you’ll experience a true sense of the pioneers as you’ll likely not bump into many other tourists whilst out on game drives and the sense of remote Africa will really be apparent. The Ruaha is great for its large populations of elephant, buffalo, greater and lesser kudu, hippo, crocodile and of course for its stunning scenery.

With mighty rivers, lakes and forests and expanses of plains the Selous and Ruaha are vast and home to millions of animals. These lush havens support flourishing wildlife numbers are surprisingly infrequently visited so are perfect for a safari slightly off the beaten track.

Southern Tanzania offers the chance to safari in different ways. You can explore its remote habitats both by a game drive across the plains and walking safari with your armed guide, there is also the opportunity to explore by river boat along the Rufigi river.

The best time to visit Southern Tanzania for your safari is June to October with cooler dry weather and the best chance of seeing game as it congregates around the shrinking waterholes. We know the best guides and tented camps to use in this region to create either a week or two visting both parks or as a few extra days on safari in combination with the Northern Tanzania Safari Circuit.
