Luxury Safari Holidays in Tanzania
Tanzania; vast rolling plains of the Serengeti that host Africa’s infamous wildebeest migration, the striking depth of the 8000ft high Ngorongoro Crater, and the indulating pink shimmer of flamingos resting in the salt lake shallows.
What pictures are conjured up in your mind when one says, ‘a safari in Tanzania’? Perhaps it is the vast plains of the Serengeti stretching as far as the eye can see. Or the herds of Wildebeest traversing those plains in search of fresh grasses and stumbling nose to tail for what seems like eternity. Or is it the Ngorongoro Crater an imploded volcano whose floor is now home to abundant game or the crater’s lake that provides that typical pink African shimmer of Flamingos which rest on one legged in the shallow waters in the heat of the day. Whatever the picture, Tanzania is an excellent choice for your luxury safari in Africa.
Tanzania is a safari location with exceptional topography, pulsating culture, abundant game and fabulous and remote luxury safari camps to create the ultimate East African safari experience.
Tanzania is notorious for its infinite rolling plains of the Serengeti which are scattered with wildebeest, its tree climbing lions in Lake Manyara National Park, the remarkable Ngorongoro Crater and the lesser visited locations to the south, the Selous Game Reserve and the Ruaha National Park, which provide a totally different safari experience in Tanzania.
The Selous and Ruaha are often referred to as Tanzania’s ‘Southern Tanzania Safari Circuit’. In the Selous Reserve you can expect to feel a true sense of how the pioneers felt when out on safari, as you are not likely to bump into many other tourists whilst out on game drives making the sense of remote Africa even more apparent. The Ruaha is a must for elephant lovers as it has large populations of elephant and of course stunning scenery.
Southern Tanzania is about mighty rivers, lakes, plains and forests home to millions of animals. These lush habitats support thriving wildlife numbers are astonishingly infrequently visited so are just right for a safari slightly off the beaten track.
The best time for a safari in either the Ruaha or Selous is June to October, which is the cooler drier season and gives the best opportunity to see game as it congregates around the dwindling waterholes.
On a luxury safari in the more northern reaches of Tanzania you would likely spend in the Serengeti in a delightful traditional tented safari camp which relocates every couple of months to follow the Great Migration. A mobile camp in the Serengeti such as this is perfect for either a family safari or for a group of friends on safari together. A mobile camp such as this is a unique way to observer this remarkable spectacle as you’ll be perfectly positioned to see literally millions of wildebeest and zebra in search of fresh pasture with the predatory big cats following them. On safari in Tanzania in addition to the migration you can seek out the Big five on the 265 square kilometres of Ngorongoro crater floor, spend a few nights in the Tarangire or Lake Manyara National Parks before you head off to an exquisite beach to relax. With fantastic luxury camps, superb cuisine and expert guides and hosts throughout your safari this is luxury in Tanzania.
