Benguerra Island Mozambique
Benguerra Island in the Bazaruto Archipelago was declared a National Marine park in 1971 and is Famous for some of the World’s most beautiful diving & snorkelling spots which is home to plentiful Marine & Bird life.
Benguerra island is just 14 kilometres of the African coast and is named after it’s tribal chief. Benguerra Lodge which is located on the north-west coast of the tropical and romantic Benguerra Island, renowned for its powder white, pristine beaches, is a sought after destination for couples on a Safari Honeymoon as it offers the ultimate romantic beach hideaway. In addition to a very attractive coastline, Benguerra Island also has thick forest, open savannah and impressive wetland eco-systems, which sustain a diverse flourishing population of flora and fauna.
After a luxury safari in one of Africa's many safari destinations ultimately a stay on Benguerra Island offers the unspoilt pure beauty of a National Park environment, deserted soft powder white beaches, and sparkling azure seas which are sailed by local dhows plying their trade along Africa’s coast. If you sit amongst the swaying palms on a sunny day quietly watching the dhows sail past you can’t but relax. Follow that with a dinner on the sweeping sandy beach at dusk by candlelight and enjoy a few nightcaps under the immense star studded sky.
Benguerra Island has some magnificent reefs and coral for diving and snorkelling on and it is home to the turtles that nest on the island’s outer shores. Sharing the soft waters that lap the island are the migrating whales, playful dolphins, and the elusive and protected dugong that swim gently through the water, along with marlin, sailfish and tuna to tempt the keen fishing enthusiast. Benguerra has it’s towering sand dunes to explore that give way to indigenous bush which is abundant with local flora and fauna, home to an interesting variety of birdlife, as well as the odd crocodile at the island’s the lakes. The island’s local people are warm and welcoming and make for fascinating cultural encounters, and the starry night sky is quite magnificent to behold.
Benguerra Island lodge is a unique and incomparable African island paradise surrounded by the warm sparkling waters of the Indian Ocean. It offers four styles of accommodation, there are two bungalows set in the cooler milkwood forests with glorious sea views, there are two luxury beach cabanas with private wooden decks and plunge pools, ten beach casitas with private decks and gazebos under which to relax in the mid afternoon, and a fabulous luxury villa which is the epitome of luxury on the beach, with two carefully furnished double bedrooms, a private pool and personal chef.
The Lodge itself is intimate and offers a genuine warm hospitality, a personalised service and an excellent knowledge of the surrounding natural environment. The lodge décor has a rich East African/Arabic feel – and our client often comment that the food at the lodge is ‘beyond superb’.the unique and delectable food. The lodge rooms all merge naturally into the surrounding forest and are only moments from the gorgeous silver-white beach of Benguerra Bay.
