Elephant Pepper Camp.

Elephant Pepper camp is a very comfortable traditionally styled safari camp in a remote spot overlooking the Masai Mara plains.

When thinking of an African safari many people are drawn to Kenya which is often regarded as the home of the original African safari. Kenya’s world famous Masai Mara is divided into different conservation areas one of which is the Mara North conservancy which covers over 70,000 acres and enjoys some of the Mara’s prime game viewing.

Elephant Pepper Camp is located in the middle of a 3600 sq km wilderness and deliberately situated away from other lodges to provide a small and exclusive luxury safari camp in the heart of the African bush. The traditional style tented camp is low key and eco-friendly to minimise any disruption to the resident wildlife as they continue on their way around or within the camp. It is a non permanent structure, hidden within the Elephant Pepper trees and successfully manages to combine rustic with comfortable luxury without the intrusion and noise of generators and traffic and provides an authentic African safari experience but with certain comforts for its guests.

The management works very closely with the local Maasai landowners and actively supports a local school, building relationships to benefit both the community and tourism.

The camp enjoys close proximity (just a twenty minute game drive) to Mar Shikar Airstrip with its daily scheduled light aircraft flights from Nairobi, Shaba, Samburu and Nanyuki enabling an itinerary to flow well.

There are seven spacious canvas tents and a honeymoon safari tent, which can be easily converted into a family tent. All are comfortably furnished, having en-suite bathrooms with eco-friendly flush toilets and traditional hot safari showers. All tents have a private veranda for relaxation and the opportunity to enjoy views over the endless plains. The honeymoon /family safari tent also has both a seating and dining area together with private camp-fire space. Guests enjoy delicious meals and snacks prepared by attentive staff - barbecues by the campfire, dinner in the mess tent and bush breakfasts on the open plains. The tented communal areas include a dining room and bar, lounge and a cosy library.

This area of the Masai Mara enjoys abundant wildlife including lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena, giraffe, elephant, wildebeest and zebra and in huge numbers especially during the annual migration as it flows across the plains. Due to its location next to a waterhole there is also much plains game around the camp during the dry periods.

There is a full itinerary of activities available to guests – leaving the camp on game drives, both day and night, in excellent 4 x 4 vehicles and accompanied by experienced, knowledgeable and passionate guides. As an added game viewing experience, guests can also enjoy guided bush walks and due to the camp’s involvement with the local Maasai community cultural visits are encouraged. Bush breakfasts at the beginning of an African game viewing day and sundowners at the close are welcome and popular activities. After yet another delicious meal guests can relax around a roaring campfire contemplating and discussing the day’s events with just the flames crackling and the sounds of the African night all around.
