Hunters Country House in South Africa
South Africa has a wonderful gem on its coastline; Hunter’s Country House. This thatched homestead is set in beautifully tended gardens, against the stunning backdrop of the Tsitsikamma Mountains just seven miles outside of Plettenberg Bay and it is the perfect stop over for a family whilst on a South African Holiday.
Hunter’s Country House is located in Plettenberg Bay which is a recommended stop off point along the Garden Route as it is peaceful and charming, welcoming and quite special. Plettenberg Bay was originally christened “Bahia Formosa” (beautiful bay) by early Portuguese explorers, as they discovered the bay’s miles of sweeping, un spoilt golden beaches, punctuated by it’s dramatic rocky peninsula, it sparkling lagoons and rich estuaries, and its lofty indigenous forests and unpolluted pure rivers and sea.
Hunter`s Country House is an exclusive well designed 5 star lodge hotel with an exceptional hospitality team that make everyone welcome. The lodge is situated in lush well tended gardens with many different types of flora attracting a plethora of wildlife. The gardens offer an oasis of relaxation along South Africa’s stunning Garden Route. The lodge is positioned overlooking an indigenous forest, and it is just 7 miles west of Plettenberg Bay and 13 miles east of Knysna, Hunter's is right in the heart of the magnificent Garden Route offering easy access to a variety of pastimes and attractions.
The individually decorated garden suites are luxuriously furnished with fine antiques, and they have open fire places and private patios. The main thatched, 100 year old homestead, offers stately candle-lit dining rooms, cosy log fire lounges, a library and a sun drenched breakfast room.
The hotel offers some excellent aromatherapy and massage treatments in your room on request. There is also an antique and curio shop for a few trinkets to take home, and a quaint chapel in the surrounding forest for romantic weddings.
Hunters Country House welcomes families with children of all ages. There is a well thought out recreation area, including a shallow swimming pool, games room and thatch-covered sandpit, especially for them.
Many people self drive along the Garden Route and Hunter’s Country House is a perfect for a two or three night stay. Whilst at the lodge you can enjoy fantastic walking along well trodden coastal routes perfect for a little photography and bird or whale watching. There are also forest trails, tennis courts, fabulous golf courses and watersports, not forgetting the wide beautiful stretches of beach.
For entertaining a family Plettenberg Bay is ideal. A little further afield are Oudtshoorn that offers the Cango caves, and intricate network of caves and kasems with high ceilings dripping with stalactites, and some wonderful Ostrich farms.
