Kwesani Camp in Botswana

Kwetsani Camp sits in the flourishing Jao concession in Botswana’s Okavango Delta which consists of rolling vast open floodplains that open up before you with some of the most magnificent safari scenery for your Botswana safari. Kwetsani Camp lies on the same floodplain system as Jao Camp, on the southern side of the plains. This area of the concession has beautiful islands fringed with riverine forests.

The Jao concession lies in a very central area of the Okavango Delta, embodying all that is magical about Botswana. From the sparkling narrow water ways that slip through the papyrus and reed beds in the permanent waters of the delta further north to the east of the Concession, a lush environment attracts the elusive sitatunga and the even rarer Pel's Fishing-Owl. Impressive swaying palm islands punctuate the calm waters, which are just waiting to be explored.

The Jao Concession is 60 000 hectares in extent and is in the north-western area of the Okavango Delta below the Panhandle. The Moremi Game Reserve forms the eastern boundary of the concession. .

The Okavango rests between shallow fault lines at the end of the Great African Rift Valley. Deserts are low on annual rainfall and the Okavango Delta is no exception. However, each year floodwater flows into the Okavango from its source in the moist African highlands over 1000 km away. These floodwaters flow from their catchment southwards and into the Kalahari Desert to create a unique wetland that supports and sustains a huge diversity of wildlife. .

Lying as it does in the very heart of the Delta, the Jao Concession embodies all the magic and mystique of the Okavango. Narrow water channels cut their way through the papyrus and reed beds in the permanent delta to the north and east of the concession, providing the perfect environment for the elusive sitatunga and the rare Pel's Fishing-Owl. Beautiful lush palm islands dot the water, begging to be explored. .

Kwetsani camp has just five fabulously furnished 'tree-house' style chalets, each with its own en-suite bathroom. Each tree house affords guests with open, airy accommodation built from natural materials such as thatch, wood, glass and canvas. Kwetsani camp’s comfortable dining room, lounge and pub area is situated under a shady thatched roof, overlooking an enormous floodplain that is often visited with lechwe, wildebeest and many other plains game. Guests can relax with a drink and watch the animals from the pool or the privacy of their own rooms. .

Kwetsani camp is superbly based for a wide variety of land and water activities whilst on your safari, independent on the annual flood levels. Kwetsani benefits from two platform hides located in spots in the concession commonly visited by game. Whilst staying at Kwetsani Camp guests can view elephants, hippo and water game by mokoro, and explore palm-fringed islands on foot, or experience wonderful game drives by day to see lion, leopard, wild dog, cheetah, tsessebe and red lechwe which are plentiful number, or by night to witness the nocturnal animal activity such as porcupine, aardwolf, serval, large spotted genet and lesser bushbaby. Whilst in the midday sun along the banks of the lagoons are the sitatunga antelope and crocodile which laze in the sun. .
