Laragai House

Laragai House is set against the dramatic scenery of snow capped Mount Kenya and a vista of the dominating mountain views of Kenya’s Northern Frontier District. The Borana Ranch and Safari Lodge offers a hugely varied African luxury safari experience.

Home to the Dyer family for three generations the family both understand and support the preservation of the natural environment to assist its development by promoting social and economic improvements to the area.

There are two styles of accommodation available - at The Lodge or the luxurious private home of Laragai House.

Just eight kilometres away from the Lodge Laragai House sits on the edge of a plateau and enjoys amazing views of the Lolokwe and Wamba Mountains. The house offers t

he ultimate exclusive haven for a group or family to enjoy a spectacular wildlife experience in complete privacy and total luxury.

The house sleeps eight in its four spacious bedrooms and the sitting room, beneath a thatched roof, has a huge fireplace lending itself to being a cosy gathering place at the end of a full day’s game viewing and ideal if the evening is a little chill. Furnished with a combination of items from Africa, India and England there is a full complement of modern electronics available in the form of satellite television together with WiFi internet throughout. An extensive games room has something to entertain and occupy guests of all ages.

To wash off the dust of a day on safari in Kenya a cool refreshing dip in the heated swimming pool is a must and whilst doing so enjoy the views across to Borana Ranch. There is plenty of shade here to enjoy a long lunch or comfortable afternoon snooze.

The property also has a helicopter landing site from which both helicopters and fixed wing aircraft can be chartered to enjoy a thrilling airborne safari of the landscape around Mount Kenya.

Families are most welcome and the facilities and reception ensure that children enjoy the experience as much as their parents do. From the swimming pool and waterfall, horse riding or game viewing from the Land Rovers they will be too busy to be bored.

Having exclusive use of the kitchen, the staff at Laragi House can easily prepare meals better suited to younger taste buds and serve it to them at an hour best for them. Parents can also be assured that a listening service is available to enable them to put the little ones to bed to enjoy a more leisurely evening meal.

Guests at Laragai House enjoy game viewing from the complete safety and reliability of radio-linked, four-wheel drive, open-sided vehicles accompanied by a team of knowledgeable and experienced guides. Being a private property Borana enjoys freedom from game park rules delivering exceptional un-obscured game viewing opportunities.

Borana has three different stables with horses to suit all abilities and with riding being such a passion of the owners, everyone is encouraged to try this activity.

The Patent Safety horses, suitable for children and novice riders, are stabled close to the Ngare Ndare River from where you can venture into the forest at the foothills of Mount Kenya or on to the plains amongst giraffe, hartebeest and impala. A stable of polo ponies further up Mount Kenya and 26 horses at Borana Ranch are suited to experienced riders.

Starting very early and stopping for a well deserved breakfast either back at the ranch or al fresco for a longer ride these riding safaris can last anywhere from a few hours or up to four days. A tailor made safari, the ultimate horseback experience, can be undertaken together with flycamping in the community owned lodges or cabins on the slopes of Mount Kenya. The more adventurous guests can also be taken on a walking safari.
