Little Kwara in the Kwando private concession...
Little Kwara, Botswana.
Little Kwara Camp shares the same concession as its sister camp, Kwara, and sits in the heart of the Okavango Delta on a very large private area of land on the edge of the permanent waters of the famous Okavango Delta.
The camp shows Botswana at its very best, great game and a stunning location, Little Kwara is perfect for a safari in Botswana. The location of Little Kwara camp is very varied as it encompasses not only the open hippo filled lagoons and shallow waterways of the Okavango, but also great expanses of savannah and forest leading to the Moremi Wildlife Reserve. The Kwando concession borders the Moremi Game Reserve and with the flourishing densities of game there are some wonderful game sightings nearby.
This huge reserve in Botswana and its great diversity of habitat attracts a variety of wildlife in large numbers which includes large herds of elephant and buffalo, towers of giraffe and a wide variety of antelope, zebra, wildebeest and other plains game. More rare are the antelope such as roan, sable, lechwe and sitatunga yet they are also seen regularly here. The Kwara reserve is so rich with plains animals that the predator numbers do not lag far behind. The reserve has a very impressive presence of lion, cheetah, leopard and wild dog. There are also fabulous colonies of birds, and good hippo and elephant numbers are found nearby in the lagoons.
In total the Kwara Reserve stretches over 1750km² and Little Kwara camp itself is tucked away on a large wooded island with five huge walk in safari tents erected under the cool shady canopy of trees. Each tent commands superb views over the seasonal flood plains is and watery channels of the glistening Okavango Delta. Each safari tent has a full en-suite bathroom and private veranda with a viewing deck on which to observe passing game.
Little Kwara’s has just five tents which are well positioned for privacy amongst the trees, which makes the camp a peaceful and intimate setting. The safari tents are spacious, and are elevated into the trees on wooden decks. Little Kwara is simply perfect for exclusive use by small groups and families.
Activities available at Little Kwara include mokoro trips, double deck boat cruises along the permanent waterways, island walks across the plains as well and game drives both off road and at night to see nocturnal creatures such as civet and leopard. Fishing can also be arranged on request as the camp has a supply of normal reel and rod fishing tackle however if fly fishing is preferred then guests are asked to bring their own equipment. Little Kwara’s scenery is spectacular and the game viewing opportunities will not disappoint as the large number of plains game directly correlates to the number of predators supported in the reserve. Due to Kwando reserve’s labyrinth of channels, islands, seasonal flood plains and bush, a safari in this part of Botswana is always varied and interesting, and clients return time and again.
