In the Laikipia region of Northern Kenya ...
Loisaba Lodge
Loisaba Lodge sits on the border of Laikipia and Kenya's rugged Northern Frontier District.
Where better for a luxury safari in Kenya than just a few miles from the equator, in a private game reserve where the farm management and local Laikipiak Maasai and Samburu communities work together to preserve the delicate environment and the wildlife that abounds there. Laikipia lodge is thoughtfully built from stone, local timbers and thatch and is perched high on the edge of the plateau that offers amazing views all the way south to Mount Kenya.
Each room at Loisaba lodge has large French doors that open out onto a wonderful private decking area that overlooks the escarpment. The views from your cantilevered terrace are unforgettable and the waterhole below offers continual entertainment as it attracts a great number and diversity of game throughout the day, evening and night. Loisaba is well known for the ‘starbeds’ that attract many for a once in a life time overnight stay on an open, stilted room under the African sky. The kiboko and Koija Starbeds consist of three platforms that are designed for an adventurous one night stay for one or two people. The family platform however can accommodate four guests. Each of the Starbed platforms has en-suite facilities and a large shower. Each platform is of course located in such a position to provide privacy.
You can arrive at the Starbeds from the main Loisaba lodge in a variety of fashions, on horseback, on foot, by safari jeep, camel, or mountain bike. You’ll be supplied with a sumptuous picnic to see you very comfortably through the starlit night ahead of you.
Loisaba is made for adventure and yet also relaxation. A stay here can offer you the pure indulgence of a sea mineral mud wrap to a mountain bike trail down the escarpment. You’re completely at your own freedom to choose how you’d like to spend your time. So if you fancy exploring your surroundings by camel or a horseback-ride through the wild canyons then you can do so before enjoying a lovely massage before dinner.
Loisaba lodge is located in an immense area of wilderness that would take months to explore fully. The game here is diverse from elephant, buffalo, grevy zebra, and greater kudu to an increasing number of reports of big cat sightings and wild dog which were thought to be extinct in this region. At Loisaba there is no limit to what you can do here, from exciting fly camping in the wilderness, helicopter trips to the remote sand dunes of the Northern Frontier District, fly-fishing on Mount Kenya to exhilarating rock climbing amongst the soaring pinnacles that reach up from the valley floor.
At Loisaba you are very unlikely to bump into anyone else and you’ll enjoy a broad spectrum of flora and fauna and a vibrant kaleidoscope of bird species both endemic and migratory. If you fancy relaxing at the lodge then there is a wonderful cooling swimming pool, tennis courts, bocce court and croquet lawn. In addition there is the Spa for both massage and beauty treatments and a romantic open air bubble bath.
