Ngorongoro Crater lodge

The Ngorongoro Crater is a high light of the Northern Tanzania safari circuit. Built on the crater’s south-western rim is a colonial-style luxury safari lodge well worth a couple of nights before heading to the Serengeti.

The Ngorongoro Crater lodge has a sophisticated atmosphere and an impressive colonial styled interior that combines silver, gold and ruby colours under banana-leaf ceilings and grass roofs.

Ngorongoro Crater lodge has three styles of camp that run independently of each other. All of the camps are fabulous and unique and all command excellent views of the crater floor below.

After unforgettable days on the crater floor enjoying fantastic game activities evenings are lit by the large fire bowls that flank the entrance to each of the living and dining areas and guests can sit and absorb the rich African night exchanging stories of the day.

Ngorongoro Crater Lodge’s three adjacent, glamorous camps offer 30 Maasai-inspired suites perched on stilts on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater. From the outside, the lodge resembles an affluent Maasai village. Each suite is built on the rim using stone and thatch with large glass windows in the bathroom, lounge and bedroom, creating an impressive suite that is perfect for those wishing to stay somewhere very special and this infamous world heritage site.

The North and South Camp have 12 suites each, while intimate Tree Camp just has six suites. Each wonderful suite has a well appointed en suite bathroom with chandelier-lit bath-tubs and luxury showers. Each suite also has a discreet unobtrusive butler, who will bring morning coffee, stoke your fireplace and draw your bath, sprinkling the water with rose petals, ready for your enjoyment.

The suites enjoy special touches of huge bowls filled with long-stemmed red roses and Persian carpets and velvet bedspreads. The colonial feel is further enhanced with fine antiques, soft cushions, voluptuous raw silk curtains and tall, wing-backed chairs by the fireplace.

Whilst staying at Ngorongoro Crater lodge you can visit Maasai villages where you’ll be invited to walk around the village, look inside their mud hut houses and enjoy tribal dancing and market visits. Additionally you can visit the beautiful lakes Ndutu and Eyasi and the impressive Empakaai crater nearby. It is also an option to explore mankind’s roots with a visit to the famous archeological site of Olduvai Gorge where tools and fossils of early man have been uncovered. This area has provided an enormous insight into the behaviour and physical structure of our earliest ancestors.
