Most visitors to Africa are compelled to return again and again having been captivated by the friendly people, exciting wildlife and the sights and smells that can only be Africa.
So what makes a good safari?
There is much more involved than a collection of animal sightings and good accommodation. Obviously in the early stages of enquiry the basic framework needs to be well constructed upon which to drape the other elements of the trip. Detailed planning and exchange of information is crucial to enable your specialist tour operator to determine and suggest the best itinerary for you. The three key elements are season of travel, accommodation and expectation of wildlife, however, these are just the building blocks.
The season in which you travel can determine your experience not only of wildlife and comfort in respect of temperatures but in terms of cost which can vary greatly according to the time of year. An itinerary may be dictated by a particular event, such as the annual Wildebeest Migration in East Africa and as such certain realities have to be acknowledged in terms of availability of accommodation and budget. If flexible on dates of travel, however, in depth knowledge can perhaps create a more suitable itinerary certainly in terms of cost. It is important to realise that game viewing will not necessarily be poor during the wet season and indeed travel and activity can be more troublesome in the intense heat of an African Summer. The key is good advice and realistic discussion to arrive at the best timeframe for your safari.
Likewise, it is extremely important to select the most suitable safari camps and lodges to suit each individual traveller or travellers and this is of course is really crucial when planning a family safari. There is an immense selection available from luxurious lodges with their private hidden away locations to slightly more simple tented camps. With all types of accommodation and everything in between, guests should be confident that they get the experience they were hoping for. Whilst some destinations are more suitable for children, malaria free areas of South Africa for example, and there are lodges that have specific children’s’ activities, most guides are brilliant at adapting their skills to encompass the younger members of the group.
A luxury tented safari camp is as far away from most people’s idea of a camp as it could possibly be. These tented rooms have hot showers, private decks, plunge pools and comfortable beds to sink in to after a day’s game viewing. The chef and team can be guaranteed to produce delicious, freshly cooked meals often enjoyed by lamplight in the open air boma under the starry African sky. A welcome nightcap enjoyed beside the camp fire where you can swop stories and discuss the day’s events with a fellow guest rounds up the evening nicely before you are tucked up in your cosy tent.
When planning a luxury African holiday cost is one of the major considerations and therefore when setting a budget it is good to know that on safari virtually everything is inclusive and the high ratio of staff to guests will deliver customer service like you have never experienced any where.
