Lucy Parke writes about a recent product update from Desert and Delta Safaris, who visited our offices this week.
On Wednesday 10th of October, Sue and Andrew from Desert and Delta Safaris visited our offices for an update on their properties. The talk was led by Andrew, a Botswana lad who is vastly knowledgeable about his country, having lived there all of his life and grown up in the “bush” he definitely had a passion to say the least!
The talk was insightful and very entertaining, I think all of us wanted to head straight to Botswana afterwards! Andrew gave us a wonderful presentation of the lodges and wilderness areas, highlighting the key facts about each one and he didn’t miss a single detail. He told us all about which lodges are best for game drives and which are best for boating. He also explained the perfect times of year to go to each lodge and what you will hopefully see when you go.
Desert and Delta Safaris are a professional and incredibly well run company, having been operating since 1982. They certainly know how to give people a trip of a lifetime. Andrew grew up around the business and provided a wonderful insight into their ethos and what makes Desert & Delta so special. This runs through the entire company and the entire team are very proud to be a part of such an amazing company.
One property that really stuck out was the newly rebuilt Camp Moremi in the Moremi Game Reserve. Re-opened in May 2018, Camp Moremi has been transformed into an even more beautiful camp that ticks all of the boxes. New and improved rooms and suites, a beautiful outside area to relax and the lodge will accommodate all families, even with children from as young as 6 years old. Andrew explained that they wanted to keep the rustic feel of the rooms, so each still has a thatched roof which is such a lovely touch. The fabulous fire pit area is a real focus of the camp and looks amazing. It is easy to tell that the entire area has been lovingly designed to the highest quality and makes you want to be there sitting around a warming fire, under the stars. As well as the amazing lodge itself the reserve offers game drives with highly experienced guides, boating on the Xakanaxa lagoon and excellent birding.
Two of our other favourites were Leroo La Tau in the Kalahari Desert and the Xugana Island Lodge in the Okavango Delta. Both lodges are exceptionally beautiful and it is easy to see that the company have poured a lot of love into their properties. One of the big attractions of Leroo is the zebra migration which passes right outside the lodge! The new images of the camp are just wonderful, as you would expect, so if you fancy relaxing in the comfort of the lodge, just watching herds of zebras stroll by then Leroo La Tau is the place. With twelve luxurious rooms with en-suite bathrooms and a beautiful living space, it really is an exceptional lodge. The activities on offer are fantastic; you can enjoy game drives into the heart of the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park and beautiful boat rides along the Boteti River.
Finally, Xugana Island Lodge, wow what a lodge! Situated on a private concession beside the Xugana Lagoon it really is a sight to behold. The lodge can accommodate 16 guests in large, raised, reed and thatch lagoon facing chalets all with en-suite bathrooms. Just imagine staying in a beautiful room looking out across the Xugana Lagoon and the Okavango Delta, it is heavenly. As this lodge is on a private concession, Desert and Delta Safaris have gone all out with the activities and experiences, having recently added game drives the lodge also provides motorboat safaris along the Okavango Delta, mokoro canoeing safaris and seasonal catch and release fishing depending on the season. Now this all sounds amazing but it gets even better, one of the experiences offered is dinner on a private pontoon in the middle of the Okavango Delta, where you are whisked away with your own private waiter on the pontoon for a delicious meal and drinks, it just sounds and looks heavenly.
Now you know everything there is to know about Desert and Delta Safaris and their wonderful camps I’m sure you’re thinking “Oh my goodness, I want to book that exact trip right now!” and you can! Attached is a perfect itinerary detailing the entire trip from $4,655pp.
Once again, a big thank you to Desert and Delta Safaris for sharing your passion and incredible lodges with us, we are all on the next flight to Botswana!
